During the summer, Atletico Madrid addressed their defense problems by signing two new centre-backs: Robin Le Normand and Clement Lenglet. Of the two, Lenglet was the less important arrival, but he has made his mark at the Metropolitano in recent months.
Lenglet was initially not counted on by Diego Simeone, but after Le Normand suffered a traumatic brain injury, he got his chance. It's one he hasn't let go of, and now he's a nailed-on starter.
On Saturday, Lenglet will face parent club Barcelona, and ahead of that match, Marca have reported that Atleti bosses are calling for the French defender to be signed from the Catalan side on a permanent basis.
Barcelona would certainly welcome the permanent departure of Lenglet, who they have been trying to change for several years. With his contract expiring in 2026, Atletico Madrid could also acquire his services next summer at a significantly lower price.
