There is no greater friend than the enemy of your enemy, as the saying goes. Although institutional relations between Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are far from smooth, Los Rojiblancos certainly enjoyed the latter's performance in the Spanish Super Cup final on Sunday evening.
Just minutes after Real Madrid were emphatically defeated 5-2 by Barcelona, Atletico took to social media to rub Los Blancos' proverbial noses in it. Whenever five goals are scored in Spain, the 'manita', or small hand, is usually required, something players often hold up afterwards. It was a custom popularized by Gerard Pique during his heyday.
Just minutes after the final whistle, Atletico's official Twitter/X account posted a photo of Cesar Azpilicueta with a manita of his own, with the simple caption “Have a nice weekend.” All is going well for the Metropolitano, who confirmed themselves as winter champions on Sunday after a 1-0 win over Osasuna that put them one point ahead of Los Blancos and six ahead of Barcelona.
