Atletico Madrid wants to complete a ninth signing of the summer transfer window, but their efforts have been delayed in recent days. Stuttgart's Enzo Millot was the man who wanted Los Colchoneros, but there are now fear that they will miss him because of the growing interest – especially from the Premier League.
Millot is said to have been the last part in the puzzle for Diego Simeone in terms of his midfield/attacking options, but if a deal cannot be done with Stuttgart, other options must be considered. And it can be in England where they find their solution.
As reported by securityside, Atleti are among the clubs that are interested in signing Southampton -midfielder Mateus Fernandes. The 21-year-old impressed the Premier League last season and registered two goals and four assists for one side that collected 20th in the rankings with only 12 points.
In addition to Atleti, interest is shown in Fernandes of West Ham United, Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Juventus – which is understandable in view of the fact that Southampton is open for a sale in the £ 20 million region (€ 25 million).
Although Fernandes is mainly seen as an attacking midfielder, he is able to work in a slightly deeper role – and he can also be used on the left wing, which means that he could act as a backup for another new arrival in Alex Baena.
The coming weeks will be very interesting for Athleti, while they continue the preparations for the coming season 2025-26. There is a real desire to get another player before the first match against Espanyol, and if Millot is no longer an option, Fernandes can be an excellent alternative to Simeone's team.
