Atletico Madrid has regularly looked at the Premier League market in recent years, and they were able to do so again in 2025 because they strive to add a new left-sided attacker to Diego Simeone's team for the start of the next season.
Simeone is not convinced with the left midfield position in its 4-4-2 system, where neither Samuel Lino nor Conor Gallagher have been able to make it in recent months. As such, the idea is that a new signing is being introduced to offer further competition.
Alex Baena would be the leading target of Atleti for this role, but his reported asking price of € 50 million can be difficult to reach. As a result, other options are investigated, and according to reports in England (via MD), Luis Guilherme is one of the players who monitors Los Colchoneros.
Guilherme is currently in West Ham United, of whom he came to Palmeiras last summer in a deal worth € 23 million. The 19-year-old has difficulty adapting to the Premier League, and as a result he could get the chance to continue his career elsewhere, where La Liga is probably an attractive prospect for the teenager.
According to the report, West Ham is open for a loan or permanent deal with guilherme, although they would ask for a fee in the region of € 30 million if they had a clean break of the Brazilian winger. Atleti would not be willing to pay that amount for a player who is not proven in European football, so it would be no surprise to see them explore a temporary arrangement if they were taking a step.
It will be interesting to see how Athleti turns it into their transfers activities in the summer. They will not spend as much as in 2024, but it would still be a very busy time for the Diego Simeone team.
