Atletico Madrid keen on summer move for Premier League midfielder

It is no secret that Atletico Madrid wants to sign a new defensive midfielder after he did not tackle the position last summer. The fact that club captain Koke Resurreccion comes towards the end of his career, in combination with the expected departure of Thomas Lemar, means that it is important that a pivot arrives in the Metropolitano before the start of the 2025-26 season.

The sports department of Atleti has drawn up a shortlist in recent months, with Samu Costa from Mallorca. Another player who has now been added is the Wilfred Ndidi from Leicester City, as reported by caughtside.

Ndidi was connected to Barcelona last summer, before he chose to sign a new contract with Leicester. However, he is expected to leave the Premier League side in 2025 and be Athleti in the race.

It is not only Athleti who showing interest in NDIDI, because the report states that real betis would also like to have the Nigerian international. Van Los Verdiblancos is expected to sell Johnny Cardoso to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, and the search for a replacement seems to be underway.

Because Monaco is said to compete against Athleti and Betis, and reportedly rejected an offer of £ 20 million during the winter transfer window. If Leicester City asks for a similar price in the summer, it can be difficult for Ndidi to move to La Liga, because neither clubs are probably overly willing to leave with that money more a player who is not nailed starter would be.

It is still to be seen whether NDIDI ends up in Atletico Madrid or Betis. He would be a good squadron player for both sides, although the price should be good to close a deal.
