Atletico Madrid pair won’t have contracts extended as summer departure beckons

Atletico Madrid are expected to be busy again next summer, even if spending won't be as high as 12 months earlier. Ahead of the opening of the transfer window in six months' time, they are starting to determine their position in relation to some of their existing players, some of whom will be leaving.

Two guaranteed departures are Axel Witsel and Cesar Azpilicueta, as Marca has reported that neither will have their contracts extended. As both end their current deals in the summer, they will be leaving.

Another possible departure is Reinildo Mandava, as his contract also expires at the end of the season. He has an automatic one-year extension that kicks in if he pays for nine more games (45+ minutes). While this should be achieved, Atleti could let him leave for free in the summer, as they did with Stefan Savic in 2023.

Koke Resurreccion is the latest player whose contract expires in six months, and Atletico Madrid will leave the decision to renew up to him. They want him to stay, but if he decides to embark on a new adventure, they would accept it.
