Atletico Madrid has been very busy in recent weeks – and in the last 24 hours alone they have confirmed two new signing sessions. But they are not ready yet, and soon an addition can be made to the Diego Simeone team.
After Alex Baena and Matteo Ruggeri had already signed, Athleti completed a deal for Thiago Almada on Tuesday. And earlier on Wednesday they confirmed the arrival of Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis, and they are now quickly getting up to secure signature number five of the Summer Transfer Window 2025.
As reported by Diario ALS, Atleti has taken a step to sign Just-Back Jesus Areso from Osasuna. The 26-year-old was destined to sign for Athletic Club in a deal worth € 10 million, but Los Colchoneros is now prepared to hijack the efforts of those in Bilbao.
Areso, who has a release clause of € 12 million, is open to a member of Atleti, and he plans to hear them before he gives the green light to athletic. As such there is a chance that instead he will move to the Riyadhair Metropolitano, where he would compete for a starting point with Marcos Llorente.
Currently Simeone has Llorente and Nahuel Molina as right back options, but in the case of the arrival of Areso the latter will leave. Atleti is already investigating him, and El Desmarque has reported that Villarreal has been given the opportunity to take him for the 2025-26 season.
Areso would again be an excellent addition to Athleti, who are building a very complete team for the 2025-26 season. He will almost certainly leave Osasuna this summer, and although Athletic insists on sealing his arrival, he could now decide to become a member of Simeone's team.
The coming hours are crucial in this operation. It will soon be known whether Areso will sign for Athletic or Atleti.
