Atletico Madrid was convinced on Friday that the former Osasuna right back Jesus Areso would be their new right back that was signed this week. In a late turn of events, however, Los Rojiblancos saw Areso and brought an alternative.
Areso had a deal with Atletico agreed, just like Osasuna, but after Athletic Club had used them with their offer, Los Colchoneros remained behind with their plan in doors. This also happened after they opened the door to the current right back Nahuel Molina, who had to replace Areso and is currently in conversation with Juventus.
After interest from AC Milan and Wolves, there was a deal for Pubill to go to Wolves in England. Pubill had also attracted interest from Atalanta and Barcelona in the past year, with a switch to the first to collapsed at the last minute last summer.
In the space of a few hours, however, Marca explains that Atletico could convince both Almeria and Pubill with their proposal. Atletico Madrid has officially confirmed the signing of the 22-year-old Olympic gold medal winner and the above report explains that it will be a deal of € 16 million with € 4 million in add-ons and a sales costs of 15% for Almeria.
Pubill was highly appreciated in Levante before he even made his senior debut. Shortly thereafter, Pubill made a movement of € 5 million and quickly earned a starting place in Almeria, after he joined the newly promoted side in 2023. Despite his clear promise, Almeria held Pubill last season in Segunda, amidst frequent links to Barcelona, who was near Barcelona last year.
Strong, Pacy and able to come up and down, Diego Simeone has a younger alternative to Marcos Llorente, who wants to attack the by-line. A solid defensive prospect so far, if he is able to muscle ahead more often, it must fit immediately.
