Atletico Madrid were very busy during the summer 2024 transfer window, following the big signings of Julian Alvarez, Conor Gallagher, Alexander Sorloth and Robin Le Normand. It is unlikely that they will be this busy in 2025, although they still want to do important business in the market.
However, it is likely that a sale will be needed before that can happen. Fortunately, one is already on the verge of closing, as Relevo has reported that RB Leipzig are “very close” to completing the Belgian midfielder's permanent signing.
Atleti would receive €20 million once the sale of Vermeeren is completed, and this would be added to the €3 million they already received from the original loan deal.
There will undoubtedly be disappointment at Atletico Madrid that the signing of Vermeeren, who joined from Royal Antwerp in January, did not work out. Nevertheless, the money received should be very beneficial ahead of next summer's transfer window.
