Pablo Barrios has started the 2024/25 season well and was rewarded for that form earlier this week when he made his Spain debut in the 3-2 UEFA Nations League win over Switzerland. In recent months, his profile at Atletico Madrid has also risen significantly, to the point that he is now a regular starter.
Barrios' achievements for Atleti have not gone unnoticed across Europe, and especially in England. In recent weeks he has been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, although Los Colchoneros are determined to keep him at the Metropolitano for many years to come.
According to Diario AS, Atleti are preparing to offer Barrios a new contract – as part of which his salary would increase from €1 million to €3 million. He would not be among the club's highest earners, but this change underlines his importance at the club.
Barrios has shown no signs of wanting to leave Atletico Madrid, so it would not be a surprise if a new contract was agreed in the coming months. If so, it would be an excellent move.
