Atletico Madrid expects to be busy this summer, and one of the primary objectives is to finally get Thomas Lemar out of the books.
In the summer of 2018, Lemar performed at Atleti as Monaco for a fee in the region of € 72 million, and although he showed early promise upon his arrival in the Spanish capital, it is safe to say that his time at the club was rather disastrous. He has been out of favor for a while now, but moving him has proven to be difficult for the sports department of Los Colchoneros.
The great wages of Lemar have hardened Atleti in their efforts to improve their financial situation, so there is such a desire for a sale. However, they are willing to settle for a loan this summer, which they hope will help the French midfielder find a new club, according to Marca.
This method, which Athleti would see paying a considerable part of Lemar's wages, was used last summer with Saul Niguez, who was another that the club was desperately to stop paying his excessive wages. The Spaniard has found a new home in Seville, where he is expected to remain permanent – although he has still been contracted on the Madrid side.
Atleti will hope that releasing a few wages from Lemar makes several new signing sessions possible in the summer. They are planning to bring in a central midfielder, while there are also ambitions for a center-back and let the midfielder be added to the Diego Simeone team for the start of the following season.
It is still to be seen where Lemar ends up, if he does indeed continue from Atletico Madrid. He will also feel like revitalizing his career after a few seasons.
