Atletico Madrid looks at another busy summer transfer window, with different signing sessions wanted by Diego Simeone. Left-back is a position that is expected to be tackled, and after continuing from Theo Hernandez, the club has now identified Andy Robertson as their leading candidate.
Robertson is expected to lose his place as Liverpool's left-back next season, with Milos Kerkez of AFC Bournemouth who signs up. And this gives Athleti hope to get a deal, mainly because the contract of the Scotland International in Anfield ends in June 2026.
It has been reported that Robertson is very interested in the switch to the Riyadhair Metropolitano, where he would be a normal starter for Javi Galan and Reinildo Mandava. And according to Fabrizio Romano, Atleti hopes to sign the 31-year-old defender for a nominal reimbursement or even on a free transfer.
Given that Athleti focuses on large money movements for Cristian Romero and Alex Baena, there is a desire to save money where possible when pursuing other goals. But in this case, Liverpool Robertson still sees an important player, despite his expected relegation, which could make it difficult for Los Colchoneros to get what they want.
There is little doubt that Robertson would be a top signing for Athleti. At the age of 31 he has left in the tank for many years, and as a proven winner he will be an important player in the dressing room. He would also be a perfect solution for the left -wing problem that Simeone has had to deal with in recent years.
But the chance is that they cannot get a deal, unless they commit themselves to pay more than they are currently planning. For now it is still to be seen whether they are changing their attitude.
