Atletico outspend Real Madrid as transfer figures for last decade are revealed

Real Madrid has the image of the great editions and all-converted multinational giants in football, but President Florentino Perez recently defined their transfer strategy by relative cuts. By limiting Los Blancos to just one Galactico certificate per summer, nowadays they only bring experienced players as free agents.

That shift took place after their expenses for Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard, two transfers who contributed to almost € 200 million, but hardly brought a return to the field or in their accounts. According to Transfermarkt, as worn by Cadena SER, Real Madrid 12th is in the general expenditure on transfer costs in recent decade, after he has spoken € 1.1 billion at that time.

For them are Liverpool, and they are something for the two sides of the Milan derby. It is remarkable that the large three of Spain are the only participants of La Liga in the top 25 in Europe. In the meantime, Atletico Madrid is just in the top 10, after he has spent € 1.12b in the same period. Los Colchoneros can attribute part of it to the last summer, when Julian Alvarez, Alexander Sorloth, Conor Gallagher and Robin Le Normand, in deals that also approach € 200 million. For them, Tottenham Hotspur (€ 1.13b) and Arsenal (€ 1,144B).

Barcelona is the highest side of La Liga, which has spent € 1,159b, and they are seventh. Vooruit are Juventus (€ 1,181B), Paris Saint-Germain (€ 1.89b), Manchester United (€ 1.97b), Manchester City (€ 2.06b) and Chelsea (€ 2.1b). Once the Catalan side would have been at the top of the list, but since the use of their 'economic levers', the Blaugrana has been somewhat delayed and € 90 million spent in the past two seasons.

The rankings clearly provide some insight into the spending habits of the top clubs in Europe, but also the financial power of the Premier League, which occupy five of the top ten places. The rankings can also be somewhat deceptive in terms of total expenditure, because it does not take into account expenditure for wages or signing costs, which are considerable in the case of free agents such as Kylian Mbappe.
