Bayern Munich found out of a goal to win 3-1 on Friday to 10-man Augsburg, but the victory was overshadowed by the injury of Jamal Musiala in the second half.
Match report
Musiala was picked up in the WWK Arena in the 54th minute with a suspected hamstring problem, but the side of Vincent Kompany was able to hold to increase their lead on the Bundesliga top to nine points.
Second placed Bayer Leverkusen has the chance to cut Bayern's lead back to six points on Saturday, with Xabi Alonso's side opposite Laag Heidenheim.
Augsburg defended firmly in the opening changes and also offered a threat to the break, where Samuel Essende fired the first meaningful attempt by the game on goal.
And they took the lead in the 30th minute when Jeffrey Gouweleeuw's fast free kick caught Bayern-Tutten, with Dimitris Giannoulis stealing behind and rifting the ball along Jonas Urbig and in the roof of the net.
But Musiala recovered parity just before the break, collecting Leroy Sane's cross in the box before he protects the ball brilliantly and found the left corner on the vortex.
However, only nine minutes after the break, Musiala fell to the turf and indicated that he had to be replaced, only adding to the growing list of Kompany prior to their huge first leg of the Champions League with Inter next week.
However, the determining moment in the game came just before the hour when Cedric Zligiger was shown a second yellow card after he pulled Harry Kane down, with Bayern made full use of the header of the English captain two minutes later.
And the result was sealed in the third minute of the second half of the stopping time by a Chrislain Matsima-Food goal. The Augsburg defender stuck out a leg to try to block Sane's shot to the goal, but instead led it to his own keeper.
Data Debrief: Sane seems to be for Bayern
Sane continued to impress Bayern with another dynamic display against Augsburg. Although not officially credited with the assist for the Leveler of Musiala, the German International showed its qualities on Friday.
He ended the match with team -high Totals for Schoten (seven) and touches in the opposition box (11), while only Josip Stanisic (five) created more opportunities than healthy during the game (two, level with Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnobry).
But Bayern again had to show their recovery powers to seal a 21st competition win of the season. They have now won 12 points of losing positions in the top flight this campaign, more than any other side in the division.
