Austria striker Arnautovic reveals he had ‘panic attack’ during draw with Serbia

Marko Arnautovic has revealed that he had a panic attack on Thursday evening during the 1-1 draw of Austria with Serbia.

The two parties wanted to gain an advantage in their two-legged play-off for the right to play in group A of the UEFA Nations League.

The hosts qualified for the play-offs as a second in group B3, for Slovenia and Kazakhstan, and behind the Norway group winners.

Arnautovic did not have the best of games and admitted that he experienced a mental episode during the game.

He played the full 90 minutes, but there were fear that he might have to be replaced at one point.

After the game, Arnautovic told what he went through: 'I felt a very bit of busy in the upper part of my stomach, at the same time I got a panic attack and I don't know why.

'The doctor's game me a quick look, gave me a cure and then everything was back in place and I could continue.

'Suddenly I had nausea and dizziness, maybe because of the pain in my knee, it was a very strong pain at the front of the kneecap. But then everything went well again and I kept playing. '

Arnautovic then repeated his claim when he then spoke with reporters in the mixed zone while he said, “I suddenly felt scared, I felt sick and dazed, perhaps because of the really strong pain I felt in my knee earlier.”

Marko Arnautović was born of a Serbian father and an Austrian mother, but whether this played a role is unknown.
