The side of Ange Postecoglou only had one late shot on goal – and only two in the AZ box all night.

The difference was unintentionally as a teenager mountain barrier, who brought an attempt to approve Troy Parrott's cross in his own net.

Spurs needed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to think of three major rescues to keep them firm in the draw – including to deny former Spurs striker Parrott.

But Tottenham will have to do it without midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur in the home leg of next Thursday after his third booking of the season.

The visitors created little remarkable in a Gedempte Display. Replacement Wilson Odobert had a late effort on target and walked over the bar at the end.

To make Spurs' Night worse, striker Dominic Solanke – who made his return after seven weeks with a knee injury – had to replace 20 minutes after rising and bumped off the field.
