Baptiste Santamaria (29) has played a side role since the arrival of Jorge Sampaoli at Stade Rennais. In a month and a half he has only played four minutes of football. It is a situation that is untenable for all parties and is likely to result in the midfielder leaving the Breton club in January, according to a report from Foot Mercato.
Santamaria has been a key figure in Rennes' midfield in recent seasons, but certainly not in recent weeks and since the arrival of Sampaoli, who replaced Julien Stephan on the touchline at Roazhon Park. The midfielder is desperate for playing time and given that Sampaoli requested more midfield reinforcements in January, this does not seem likely.
As a result, Santamaria wants to leave Rennes in January. SRFC is already working to secure his replacement, while the player himself is looking for a new club. AS Saint-Étienne have been touted as a possible destination, but the player's salary could make such a move difficult.
