Barca add fifth goalkeeper to shortlist for long-term Ter Stegen replacement

Barcelona will make a number of decisions to take this summer about the goalkeeper position, with three first team options that are currently in their books. After an injury to Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, the idea was to bring in a long-term replacement, while it also seems as if they are trying to keep Wojciech Szczesny after the one-year-old deal he wrote.

Manager Hansi Flick reportedly communicated that he wants Szczesny next season as his two senior keepers next season, and that is in line with what Barcelona wants for next season. The strange man is Inaki Pena. Despite his strong shape after Ter Stegen's injury, it seems that he has not convinced Flick, and he is expected to leave in the summer. Contract in 2026 contract discussions between Pena and Barcelona were stopped in January.

That said, it did not stop Barcelona from thinking about the future. Szczesny, at the age of 35, is not an option in the long term, while Ter Stegen will be 33 in April. The German Shot stopper also comes from his third operation in four years and was interrogated before this injury. If Pena leaves and Szczesny does not renew, then Barcelona will bring in a young keeper in the summer. La Masia -Product Diego Kochen is considered too green, but it will also depend on the financial situation at the club.

Recent reports have claimed that Espanyol -goalkeeper Joan Garcia is very popular in the goalkeeper department in Barcelona. MD says that he is now part of a shortlist who also includes Porto's Diogo Costa, Palmas' Alvaro Valles (will be a free agent this summer), Bart Verbruggen in Brighton and Hove Albion and Werder Bremen's Mio Backhaus.

The problem with Garcia can be the competition. Arsenal pray € 20m for Garcia last summer and is expected to close the deal for the Olympic gold medal winner this year. His release clause is € 25 million, but is increasing to € 30 million in the last 15 days of the transfer window, and with another € 5 million if it is covered for Spain, something that could happen in March.
