Malaga are seemingly on the brink of a major coup as they try to keep their star academy product 'Antonito'. The 18-year-old winger, who is out of contract this summer, has impressed in Segunda since his son's promotion from Los Boquerones last season.
Real Madrid and Barcelona have both been linked with a move for Antonio Cordero, and with less than a month before he can sign a pre-contract, Malaga's hopes of keeping him appeared to be fading. However, general manager Kike Perez has told SER Deportivo (via Diario AS) that they are optimistic about Cordero signing a new deal.
“Things have to flow. And we will achieve it. Nothing, nothing from Barcelona. What we want is for him to stay and we will fight until the last second. We have offered him a very important contract,” Perez noted following recent suggestions that Barcelona could make a bid for him during the winter transfer window.
“He is at Malaga, he is doing great things, we want him to stay, it is his home, his club. I am optimistic because I know he has an impressive sporting career ahead of him and I know he will not be better off than at this club, where he has been trained and given trust and affection. May he be with us for years to come, until he reaches adulthood.”
Cordero faced a late offer from Barcelona in the summer, who want him to join Barca Atletic, but Malaga turned down the offer. Real Madrid are more interested in signing Cordero on a free, but the fact that he is represented by Pini Zahavi has always been seen as an advantage for the Blaugrana, due to his close relationship with Joan Laporta.
