Dani Olmo may no longer be able to play for Barcelona from January 1 after the club's appeal for the Spain international's preventive registration for the rest of the season was rejected.
Olmo signed from RB Leipzig in August but was only registered for the first half of the season as Barca were unable to meet LaLiga's wage caps.
The four-month allowance that allows the Blaugrana to spend part of their wages on registering the midfielder expires at the end of December.
Barcelona's Commercial Court Number 10 subsequently rejected the club's request to provisionally register the 26-year-old for the remainder of the campaign.
And LaLiga welcomed the court's verdict.
“La Liga today took note of the ruling… rejecting Dani Olmo's request for provisional registration until June 30, 2025, on the grounds that none of the necessary conditions for the adoption of a provisional measure are met ” a statement read.
The ruling also emphasizes that 'the purpose of allowing additional expenditure is to ensure that a long-term injury does not weaken the competitive position of the team, and not to use a long-term injury to enable the registration of players whose salaries exceeds the limit of what FC Barcelona is trying to do.”
Barcelona will reportedly appeal the court's decision on Monday, a day before the deadline.
Olmo, who helped Spain win the 2024 European Championship, has played a key role for the Blaugrana this season, scoring six goals in 15 games.
