Aston Villa want to make a move for Celta Vigo right-back Oscar Mingueza in the January transfer window, and it appears only Barcelona can stand in their way. Villa sporting director Monchi is willing to pay his release clause of twenty million euros.
The 25-year-old Mingueza has a buyout clause of twenty million euros in his contract with Celta, which runs for another eighteen months. According to MD, Villa has indicated that he is willing to pay his release clause. Since Barcelona have a first refusal option, they should be given the chance to match Villa's offer, and in their case it would only set them back 10 million euros as they also have a 50% sell-on fee. Although they are impressed with Mingueza, it seems unlikely that Barcelona will do so due to their finances.
On the other hand, the €10 million boost from Villa's potential purchase of Mingueza will be more than welcomed by Barcelona's accountants. Unai Emery's side have also shown interest in Andrei Ratiu and Juan Foyth, who have different profiles but could be available for a reasonable fee.
