On Wednesday, the Supreme Council of Sport (CSD) imposed a precautionary measure on Barcelona to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, although the decision has been rejected by several prominent figures in Spanish football.
One of them was Athletic Club president Jon Uriarte, who discussed the issue before the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Barcelona, MD said.
“I don't have much more information, but I may draw a conclusion and that is that we are already eight days into the new year and are experiencing something unprecedented.
“Clubs are asked to make efforts to grow, to make our competitions bigger on the one hand and to make efforts such as coming here to a country far away from our fans to play these matches, but then we live in situations of this type is grotesque. A situation like this cannot happen because it is very bad for Spanish football.”
Minutes after Uriarte's comments, Barcelona fired back with comments from sporting director Deco (via MD).
“Every club has its stuff, it has its problems and everyone has to take care of their own things. Barcelona is doing well and we are trying to do our best. Reason or not, these are questions of justice. If (the Higher Sports Council) agrees with us for the time being, then there is a reason for that.”
