On Saturday, Barcelona hosted their Extraordinary General Meeting for December. Joan Laporta spoke, and as usual he did so with great passion.
One topic Laporta covered was Barcelona's new sponsorship deal with Nike, one of the most lucrative in football. According to Relevo, he is confident that it can help the club solve its financial problems.
“We feel strong, convinced and determined to complete the recovery of the club. This agreement contributes enormously to the economic recovery. It is an economic improvement without the members opening their pockets and jeopardizing our club's ownership model. It is a day of glorification of Barcelona.
“I am satisfied because this is the best contract in the history of a sports team in the football world. It has been a long process with complicated moments. There have been moments of maximum conflict with very distant positions, but both sides decided that a mediator would help unravel certain deep-seated situations. We have rebuilt a relationship that was battered.”
Laporta also responded to the critics he and Barcelona have faced in recent times.
“Barcelona has returned to the forefront of the world and we are doing so by consolidating a leading position. It is a success thanks to the power of our weapon. We have been strong against those who sought to discredit or disappoint us.”
