Barca keen on Benfica star with €42m release clause, talks planned for January

Left back is one of the positions that Barcelona wants to tackle in 2025. It is generally accepted within the club that Alejandro Balde has not been up to par so far this season, with the belief that his lack of serious competition is the main reason for this. There are plans to sign next summer.

Alphonso Davies is someone who has been linked to Barcelona in recent weeks, although it seems more likely that he will stay at Bayern Munich. That's why they are now considering another option: Alvaro Fernandez Carreras.

According to A Bola (via MD), Barcelona are interested in Carreras and have already planned club-to-club talks with Benfica – these will take place when the two sides meet in the Champions League next month. The report also states that Real Madrid have an interest in the 21-year-old, as do Manchester United.

Carreras has a €42 million release clause, so signing him wouldn't be easy for Barcelona unless they can significantly improve their financial situation before the end of the season. At the moment that seems difficult.
