And Sunday's game in the Olympic Stadium of Barcelona was the chance to celebrate their triumph for their home fans.
There were jubilant scenes when Captain Marc-Andre Ter Reden went his way to the field, picked up the huge trophy and wore to his teammates and lifted it up.
