Barca President Laporta won’t face Vote of No Confidence after rival backs away

On Tuesday evening, it was reported that Barcelona president Joan Laporta would face a vote of no confidence, which could see him forcibly removed from power by members. However, this will not happen for the time being.

Jordi Farre, who initiated the vote of no confidence that toppled Laporta's predecessor Josep Maria Bartomeu, planned to do so on Tuesday morning. However, El Chiringuito explains that because two members were needed to initiate the motion, his partner in the effort, Marc Cornet, has decided to withdraw from the motion. Sport says that after the news became public, Cornet faced significant pressure

Last weekend, ten opposition groups and opinion groups on Barcelona's governance signed a statement demanding Laporta's resignation. However, it was notable that Joan Camprubi, the leader of the group 'Som un Clam', appeared on the radio late on Monday evening and stated that they are currently not in favor of a vote of no confidence.

“We are skeptical that Laporta will resign. On January 2, we asked for his resignation. If not, he should at least get a vote of confidence from the members. And we do not rule out the idea of a motion of censure. What we have always said is that it is a democratic instrument that we do not like because it harms the club, but we do not rule it out.”

However, he questioned Farre's motives and timing. Two Laporta board members were once part of Farre's own 2021 candidacy.

“Now, this aforementioned motion is now being made quickly and hastily, with a title on the line, in the middle of the season. If he has people from his pre-candidacy in Laporta's board.”

It has been noted that once a motion of no confidence is accepted, another cannot be tabled for a year. If this motion fails, it would not only strengthen Laporta but also buy him time to rectify the situation. As things stand, he remains under intense pressure but is not in immediate danger.
