Barca to revisit position in 2026 transfer market – likely to miss out on target

Barcelona seems to extend the contract of veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny for next season, which essentially excludes a movement for an option in the long term at the position this summer. However, it is an area that director of Football Deco is investigating for the following summer.

Szczesny is largely impressed since he came to the team this year, apart from his first few games, and with both Club and Player Happy a new contract seems to be ahead. That means that next season Szczesny will compete with club captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen for the number one place, while he recovers from his knee operation.

The German keeper only signed an extension until 2028 last season, but after a third operation in four seasons, his lifespan is questioned. Similarly, with SZCZESNY coming out this season, and already 34 years old, he is also not a long -term guarantee. Sport says that the Polish goalkeeper has allowed Deco to postpone his goal for goalkeeper until 2026, but that he keeps an eye on various young options for the position.

Not in the least Dutch international and Brighton number one Bart Verbruggen, who at the age of 22 Tall, a good shot stopper and good with his feet, all boxes for Deco. They are aware that with a contract up to 2028 Verbruggen would not be cheap. Other options such as Lucas Chevalier van Lille, 23, and Nice's Marcin Bulka, 25, are also on their shortlist.

The decision of Barcelona to postpone their pursuit of a keeper probably means saying goodbye to every hope of signing Joan Garcia. The goalkeeper of Espanyol has attracted interest from the Blaugrana, but it seems to probably continue this summer. Arsenal has been consistently connected to Garcia in the past year, but Atletico Madrid has recently also emerged for his services such as contender.
