Barcelona's latest attempt to sign Dani Olmo for the rest of the season has been rejected by the Spanish Football Federation and LaLiga.
Olmo, 26, joined Barca from RB Leipzig for £50million this summer, amid the Catalan club's well-documented financial problems.
The Spanish international had to spend several weeks on the sidelines upon arrival as the club's financial situation prevented further registrations.
Barca eventually managed to sign both Olmo and teammate Pau Victor by securing temporary registrations that expired on December 31.
The decision means that both players are now free agents, with Olmo having a clause in his contract that he can leave the club for free if he does not register.
An initial appeal on Monday proved unsuccessful and their latest attempt to re-register Olmo and Victor was also rejected in the latest blow to Hansi Flick's side.
A statement from the Spanish Football Federation read: The Monitoring Committee of the Coordination Agreement between RFEF and La Liga has met to review the request for prior visas and processing of the federation licenses of the players, Mr. Daniel Olmo Carvajal and Mr. Pau Víctor Delgado, issued by FC to treat. Barcelona.
'Following FCB's compliance with the economic control requirements of La Liga on January 3, 2025, and the relevant documentation having been completed by the club, the La Liga budget validation body has decided to suspend the cost limit of FC's sports team Barcelona to extend. from that date.
'In this sense, the Monitoring Committee agrees, after having applied for the licenses for the above-mentioned players by FC Barcelona and after analyzing the applicable regulations, not to grant the prior visa or final license requested by FC Barcelona to the players. '
Fabrizio Romano then reported that Barcelona have not been deterred by the latest setback and that the club will appeal the decision.
The club will reportedly appeal the case to Spain's national sports council, the Consejo Superior de Deportes.
