The goal of Dani Olmo earned Barcelona a hard-fought 1-0 win at home at Mallorca, which stretched their lead over Real Madrid at the top of Laliga to seven points.
With Madrid only on Wednesday in action, when they are confronted with a potentially uncomfortable journey to Getafe, Barca knew that they could take a step in the direction of the title in Montjuic.
Barca dominated the procedure, despite the fact that Hansi Flick decided to let several important starters rest prior to the Copa del Rey -Final on Saturday against bitter rivals Madrid, but Mallorca goalkeeper Leo Roman set up a show between the sticks.
He denied Olmo with a reflex halfway through the first half, while Gavi's bent effort hit the post and Ronald Araujo missed a striking opportunity from six meters.
Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Hector Fort also went close before the break when Barca besieged the goal of Roman, but in the end they broke the impasse a minute after the restart.
The breakthrough came through a nice piece of individual skills from Olmo, which took the ball in a tight room in the box and quickly shot a left shot in the bottom corner.
Roman denied Yamal one-on-one and was also edited by Pau Victor when Barca was looking for a clinching goal, but they didn't need a second because Mallorca had not threatened.
The victory raised Barca to 76 points at the top of Laliga, with Madrid at 69 with an extra match to play, prior to the Clasico Rivals meeting in Saturday's Copa final.

Debrief data: Schoten fired by Barca
Mallorca couldn't really have too many complaints about Tuesday's result.
Despite the fact that he was without the injured Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha left on the bench for more than an hour, Barca tried 40 shots during the game.
That immediately saw them the record for a single match in Laliga since Opta Records started in 2003-04, with Madrid also led 40 versus real Zaragoza in 2011.
Barca tried 26 of those shots from the box – the most by each team in a single LaLiga match this season, while their 63 accents in the opposition area have only improved once, by the Blaugrana itself against Real Sociedad last month (66).
