This season, Barcelona has had a talent from scoring early goals, and they got another one in this game while they hit the opener within seven minutes. It was a nice moment for Gavi when he found the back of the net against his former club after he was played by Ferran Torres, and with that he scored his first La Liga goal of the season.
However, Barcelona could only stay in the front for 10 minutes, because Betis found a relatively fast equalizer. It was a corner of Giovani Lo Celso that was met by Natan, and the Brazilian defender bullied a header in the back of the net, so Wojciech Szczesny had no chance to save.
Barcelona came close to scoring a second when Pedri was refused by Adrian San Miguel, who had a very busy evening in the Betis goal. He and his defense were able to see the rest of the first half, and although the hosts started to stack the pressure in the second period, they were also able to hold when Hansi Flick with Pedri and Alejandro Balde with Wednesday's Champions League Quarterfinal first leg against Borussia Dortmund in mind.
The result means that Barcelona is now four points from Real Madrid, who lost earlier on the day of Valencia. A point for Betis sees Villarreal for the fifth go in the rankings, albeit the yellow submarine – who takes on athletic club in La Ceramica on Sunday – have played two games less.
