Barcelona accept cut-price deal to ease registration issues

Barcelona has announced a deal with sporting CP for the remaining rights of winger Francisco Trincao, who moved back to his native country in 2022, initially on loan before he went to Lisbon with a permanent deal. The Blaugroan has had 50% of its rights so far.

The initial loan movement consisted of a reimbursement of € 3 million, with an option to permanently sign it and 50% of his rights for another € 10 million. Trincao has a deal with sporty CP until 2027, but after returning to the Portugal side, and after a good season there was some hope in Barcelona that they could benefit from a big sale to the Premier League this summer.

On Friday evening, Barcelona confirmed a deal with Sporting for the rest of its rights, which Sporting CP announced as a value of € 11 million (via MD), in the midst of uncertainty about their ability to register players to register players. It is their second most lucrative deal of the summer, after having sold Pau Victor for € 12 million (plus € 3 million in variables) on another Portuguese side in Braga.

Although Sporting was planning to hold Trincao this summer, which means that Barcelona would not have received anything for him immediately, so that their fight was not helped this summer to register players. However, as recently as May, Trincao was linked to a switch to the Premier League for a price tag in the reach of € 40-50 million.

Furthermore, this means that Barcelona has sold Trincao with a total loss of € 10 million in sporting, after he had spent € 31 million to him from Braga. His transfer market value is currently at € 35 million, which would imply that Sporting would receive a 27% discount. That said, that appreciation does not take into account negotiation positions, nor in this case the urgency with which Barcelona is confronted.
