Barcelona hopes to complete 3-4 signing sessions this summer, but they also have plans to match new contracts to some of their current players and one of those who are speaking is Frenkie de Jong.
Six months ago it was almost certain that the future of De Jong would be away from Barcelona. But since he forced his way back to the starting line-up during the second half of the season, he has won a lot of fame within Can Barca-Tot The point at which preparations were made to offer him a new contract.
De Jong, whose current deal ends in 2026, has already indicated his intention to renew, and Barcelona sports director Deco, who will be in charge of the negotiations on the part of the club, has also revealed that he hopes that an agreement will be reached.
And that agreement could come before De Jong entered the last year of his current contract, whereby Jeantes (via MD) reported that Barcelona has accelerated the situation to complete a new deal for the 27-year-old before the end of this week.
Barcelona hopes to reach an agreement with De Jong who would include a salary reduction – for which he is open. After completion, the Catalans would have extra space in the wage account, which will make it easier to register Joan Garcia, who has already signed, and Nico Williams, who hope to sign the La Liga champions in the coming weeks.
De Jong had a revival under Hansi Flick. He was excellent during the second half of the season, and Barcelona will hope that he will continue to perform at a very high level for many years, provided that a new contract will be agreed between the two parties in the coming weeks.
