Barcelona and Liverpool have cleared their positions on the Colombian winger. The Catalan side has somewhat publicly mentioned the 28-year-old as their top objective for the summer transfer window, and the Reds have been quite challenging to make it clear that he is not for sale.
After Liverpool had leaked that they had rejected a Barcelona approach for Diaz, Barcelona was considered a negotiating tactics, rightly or wrong. Less than a day after the first news was leaked, Diaz herself spoke publicly about his future and admitted that there were conversations with clubs that were not Liverpool, which suggested that he was open to a move.
Despite the clear indication of Liverpool that they do not want to go on Diaz at all, the consistent report of reporting is that the Reds can accept a deal for € 80-85 million for Diaz in Spain. Barcelona has probably encouraged Diaz to talk to Liverpool and to reduce those requirements for a deal to happen.
That is because Barcelona has imposed a limit of € 60 million for the deal. According to sport, that is a concept that there is a concept that they must be patient to do a deal, and that figure can be absorbed on top of it. If the negotiation goes above, they will play their attention elsewhere.
Liverpool may indicate that this could also be a negotiating tactic. It seems that Nico Williams is back on their shortlist, and unless they can negotiate with Athletic, Barcelona would have to pay € 62 million for him. Marcus Rashford from Manchester United is also an option, but Barcelona wants a loan with an option to buy, and United gives priority to a sale.
