Barcelona and Osasuna to appeal new date for postponed clash – ‘indignation’

After a new date was set for the deferred Barcelona-Sasuna-equal game after the tragic death of Carles Minarro Garcia, both teams will appeal against the decision. The collision has been resisted for Thursday 27 March, a date with which both parties will miss important players.

The competition would take place at the back of the international break, where Barcelona should almost certainly be without Ronald Arajo and Raphinha, while Osasuna Enzo Boyomo would miss due to international obligations. All three play on Tuesday evening, with Raphinha who are present for an Argentina-Brazil collision that would end on Wednesday morning Spanish times at 3:00 am.

It would also require Osasuna to look for the rescheduling of their local collision with Athletic Club, which will take place in San Mames the next day. According to Diario AS, Barcelona are particularly unhappy and both parties have been lodged to appeal against the decision as a result. The preferred date of the Catalans, and one that Osasuna is satisfied, is the 21 May, halfway between the penultimate and final round of the League season.

That is only if Barcelona continues in both the Copa del Rey and the Champions League: if they are eliminated from both, there would be more dates to open the game. La Liga wants to have held the game before that time, because they do not want to jeopardize the 'competitive balance' of the last two rounds of the season – and it is likely that it might harm their television product.

There is priority this season, where Real Sociedad was forced to play against Jove Espanol in the Copa del Rey on Thursday after an international break after that fixture had been rearranged. On the other hand, Villarreal and Espanyol can find a date in the midweek that fits both.

Of course, little attention is paid to fans from both sides, where this decision is only discussed for ten days from the proposed game day, nor that of Athletic Club, who may have made arrangements to attend their game with Los Rojillo the next day. In the case in which La Real was involved, they had rejected their own profession.
