The draw for the Copa del Rey on Monday included all remaining teams in the competition, as Supercup participants Barcelona, Real Madrid, Athletic Club and RCD Mallorca discovered their first opponents in the tournament.
The quartet of parties participating in the Supercup in Saudi Arabia are exempt from the first two rounds. Massive killings have already seen Espanyol, Villarreal and Girona pushed out of the competition by lower league opposition Barbastro, Pontevedra and Logrones. The format will see one-legged matches played at home for the lower-ranked sides, who will play against the top-ranked sides, up to the semi-finals, with teams playing home and away.
The Round of 32 takes place on January 4 and 5, with the Round of 16 following 10 days later on January 15. The quarter-finals are scheduled for February 5 and the first and second legs of the semi-finals are on February 26 and April 2 respectively.
Barcelona were drawn against fourth-division side Barbastro, who defeated city rivals Espanyol, and the same side they beat 3-1 in January last year. Another giant killer, Pontevedra, will face Copa del Rey runners-up Pontevedra.
