Barcelona and Real Madrid have not fought for too many players in recent history, despite this previously being a common part of the transfer window. With Real Madrid set to win the battle for Alphonso Davies, Barcelona will look to take revenge by moving ahead of Los Blancos for their centre-back Jonathan Tah.
The Bayer Leverkusen centre-back is in the minds of a number of top clubs for next summer, with the 28-year-old able to sign for anyone for free from January. Bayern Munich tried to sign him last summer but failed to strike a deal with Leverkusen, but are also keen to try again with the player.
In recent days it had emerged that Chelsea were another frontrunner for his signature and were willing to offer Tah a lucrative contract. However, Bobby Vincent has stated (via Chelsea News) that this is not the case, and that the Blues are not talking to Tah.
Both Spanish sides will be hoping that Tah will prioritize a move to Bayern or La Liga, as the arrival of Premier League sides on the scene would only significantly drive up the price for the other three. That said, both Real Madrid and Barcelona have based their transfer strategies in recent years on selling the club's prestige rather than outbidding players.
