Barcelona announced a third contract renewal in a week, after a new deal for Pedri was confirmed on Thursday afternoon. There was little suggestion that the Canary would go somewhere else, nor that he wanted it, but with only 18 months over his previous deal, it will be a relief for Barcelona to get it over the line.
His new contract runs until 2030 and secures his future for another four years after his previous one. He follows the innovations that were announced before Ronald Araujo last week, followed by Gerard Martin. Gavi is also expected to renew his deal with the club after reaching an agreement on the conditions, and Lamine Yamal will also be renewed before the start of the following season as soon as he turns 18.
Pedri, still only 22 years old, burst on stage in 2020 at the age of just 17, but had been in and out of action in the last two seasons due to a series of injuries. This season, however, he brought fitness problems behind him, returned to his best and dicling game for a Barcelona that looks again as challengers in Europe.
This season he was already involved in 2,459 minutes, scored 4 times and helped 4 times in 32 games. Pedri appears in every match, but one due to illness against Valencia, started in 30 of those matches, apparently benefits from the consistent playing time.
Sports director Deco has set a goal to let anyone go to the Barcelona team next season with another year transfer to their deal, which means that everything that is at risk, new deals must be transferred or should be sold in the summer. Renewed with Pedri, Martin and Araujo and deals for Gavi, Inigo Martinez and Lamine Yamal are expected to follow, Deco has smelled a considerable part of his task list. However, Eric Garcia, Andreas Christensen, Frenkie de Jong, Inaki Pena and Hector Fort are all situations that need to be solved.
