On Friday, Osasuna stated that they would rely on their 3-0 defeat against Barcelona, because of their fieldwork of a non-intended player, in this case Inigo Martinez. Los Rojillo believes that the Blaugrana is contrary to FIFA instructions.
Martinez missed the Spain obligation due to a knee injury and recovered instead in Barcelona after their victory over Atletico Madrid. The veteran Basque defender was injured, according to an announcement by both Barcelona and Spain manager Luis de la Fuente. Nevertheless, the FIFA regulations state that players cannot play for their club within five days of the last game, if they miss the latter due to an injury. In this case, Barcelona Osasuna played only four days after Spain beat the Netherlands on penalties in Valencia.
Barcelona, however, has maintained the confidence that the profession will not occur, after he has reportedly checked that they could play Martinez with their legal services and received the green light. Furthermore, the lack of concern of the Blaugrana is based on a piece of information in the possession of President Joan Laporta. Relo explains that Laporta is aware of a conversation that took place between Spain manager Luis de la Fuente and Inigo Martinez after Barcelona had issued a statement about Martinez.
During that conversation, De la Fuente understood the 'circumstances' of Martinez and the Basque defender from the Spain obligation released. That is why Barcelona feels that they have been operated on in the virtually possible sanctions with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) at all times.
The decision will be made by a Federation Tribunal, which will assess the profession of Osasuna. Previous precedents would indicate that Barcelona will end in the clear, but there is certainly room for their profession. If Barcelona appears to have illegal field Martinez, they can get a point deduction.
