Barcelona paid € 25 million earlier this week to sign Joan Garcia, and they could now get € 5 million from Espanyol, of whom they signed the 24-year-old keeper.
Barcelona has already focused their attention on their next leading target: Nico Williams. But to activate his release clause from Athletic Club, they must generate funds and money can come in from Espanyol.
It would not relate to Garcia, but the money could arrive through a 50% clause that Barcelona has for former defender Mika Marmol. According to Marca, Espanyol is interested in signing him of degraded Las Palmas.
The € 25 million from the sale of Garcia means that Espanyol has money to spend when the transfer window will open on 1 July. And € 10 million could go to Marmol, who will almost certainly leave Las Palmas this summer because of their relegation to Segunda.
Marmol has attracted a lot of interest in the last 12 months and Espanyol is the newest club to keep an eye on his situation. He has a release clause of € 10 million, which Las Palmas will probably hold for the fact that half of the transfer costs would go to Barcelona.
AS Roma and Como are also in for Marmol, which gives Las Palmas more leverage to retain € 10 million. And if Espanyol were to pay for this, this would mean that Barcelona is able to regain 20% of the transfer costs that they have just paid for Garcia, who will be their new starting goalkeeper.
Sales clauses will be important for Barcelona this summer, especially if they continue to have problems moving first teamers they want to disappear. Marmol could be one of the many ex-players who can be used on funds that can be used on Williams.
