Barcelona dealt transfer blow as top target rejects reports

It seems Barcelona will need a replacement for Ronald Araujo sooner or later, given the flood of reports linking him with a move away. It looked like the Blaugrana had a ready-made replacement in Jonathan Tah, but he has distanced himself from the idea of a deal.

In recent weeks it has been reported that Tah is close to signing a pre-contract with Barcelona, but the latest reports are that the Germany international has not yet given the green light for a transfer. Tah has now publicly confirmed that this is the case.

“Nothing has been decided so far. I am fully focused on success at Leverkusen. I will make my decision quickly and once I have made it, I will communicate it,” he told SkySports DE, as quoted by Sport.

The Blaugrana appeared to have beaten Bayern Munich and Real Madrid according to Tah's signature, but the Bayer Leverkusen defender could still be available. Barcelona were set to keep Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi for next season but planned for Tah to join them. One of Eric Garcia, Araujo or Andreas Christensen was on the verge of finishing fourth, but recent developments could change that.
