Barcelona defender exits Daegu friendly with knee injury

Barcelona was again on the song in their third preseason, friendly of their tour through Asia and defeated Daegu FC 5-0 in South Korea before returning to Catalonia. It was a largely positive evening for the Blaugrana, but the sour note was a potential injury to Pau Cubarsi.

The 19-year-old defender looked at Daegu in good condition and brought an efficient performance. With about ten minutes to go, Cubarsi won the ball back and played it before he briefly went to the ground on his hauncches and felt his left leg. With four minutes to go, Cubarsi decided that he could not continue, and after he was attended by the medical staff, he was replaced by Hector Fort in the last minutes.

In that period Cubarsi could be seen rubbing and pointing to the area around his knee and upper tibia. MD has confirmed that this is indeed where the pain came from for Cubarsi, and that he sustained the problem during a challenge with one of the Daegu players.

Manager Hansi Flick has confirmed that the Blaugrana is not concerned with the injury. He told the press in the mix zone that it was just a precautionary measure, and he did not want to risk Cubarsi, but as far as they are aware, it is just a knock instead of a muscle problem.
