Barcelona fans panned for disgraceful racial abuse following injury to Yamal

Social media has once again been the scene of horrific racist abuse for a footballer, in this case Leganes midfielder Yvan Neyou. The 27-year-old was involved in the incident that injured Lamine Yamal on Sunday evening, although the injury was completely accidental.

As initially reported by Diario AS, Neyou posted a screenshot on his Instagram of a series of comments from alleged Barcelona fans, using the monkey emoji, which has racial connotations. The message was posted by the Cameroon international on his story.

This is far from the first time this has happened this season, and it is all too common for fans to racially abuse black players on social media after games. Real Madrid star Endrick Felipe was racially abused by Liverpool fans last month following an injury to Ibrahima Konate, while Lamine Yamal was of course one of four players to be racially abused himself at the Santiago Bernabeu.
