Barcelona will appeal tomorrow to the Ministry of Sports (CSD) over the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, as Monday is a 'King's Day' holiday in Spain. However, according to legal experts, they are fighting an uphill battle.
The Blaugrana will push for an emergency measure to keep Olmo and Victor registered while they present their case on why the registration period should be extended until February 2, including the same period of the January transfer window. Some say they may also argue for a clause in the RFEF regulations that lists force majeure as an alternative reason for registering players outside the stated deadlines.
The emergency precaution, unlike a precautionary measure, generally only hears one side of the argument to hear the case urgently, but La Vanguardia (via Diario AS) says the CSD will hear the League and RFEF arguments on the motion . which, however, could delay the resolution of the case. Barcelona had hoped for a ruling on that matter within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, El Periodico has consulted two legal experts in the field of sports law and stated that the CSD is unlikely to side with Barcelona. It wouldn't just mean going against the rules they agreed to with the RFEF and starting another conflict with the Federation after rocky relations in recent history. The fact that they are also not the last resort, while Barcelona can still appeal through the regular legal system, means that they can wash their hands of the situation.
The only conflicting report on this issue comes from RAC1, which says that the RFEF Barcelona has sent a report indicating that the regulations may not apply to the Olmo and Victor registration cases. They are said to be studying a rule change in the coming months, and Barcelona will use this in court.
