Barcelona forward to return from injury next week
Barcelona forward Ansu Fati saw more of his career robbed from him this season, with a foot injury followed by a hamstring problem keeping him out for three months. However, his return is imminent.
Fati's lack of minutes was a concern for Barcelona before his latest injury, despite manager Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco claiming he would be given the chance to get things going again this season. But after just 158 minutes in seven appearances, Ansu will face a choice over his future over the next two months.
He chose to take his chances with Can Barca this season, despite interest from Fenerbahce and Sevilla. The latter remains interested in Fati and Barcelona will not force his hand, but Ansu will be left to decide whether he looks for more protagonism elsewhere, or whether he will continue playing in Catalonia for the rest of the season. Agent Jorge Mendes had been exploring potential destinations before his latest injury, which Sport says will see him return next week.
Then he could return against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, or against Leganes in La Liga. Barcelona's final game of the year takes place against Atletico Madrid on December 22, but with the exception of possible minutes against Leganes, there don't seem to be any opportune moments for Hansi Flick to experiment. So far, Pablo Torre and Pau Victor have been ahead of him in the pecking order, and Ferran Torres has also returned from injury, creating another barrier to entry into the line-up.
