On Monday there was a fresh but old face in training in the Ciutat Esportiva, while Barcelona Club captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen was in action. His recovery from a knee injury in September continues to progress at an excellent pace.
The Brazilian attacker Raphinha practiced as normal sport, and he is expected to be fit for Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening for the second stage of their Copa del Rey Semi-final collision in the Metropolitano. As MD explained, Ter Stegen also did part of the training session with the rest of the group for the first time since his injury.
The Catalan paper explains that goals are starting to focus on the 32-year-old Shot stopper, and that he hopes to be fit to play again at the end of April. Whether he gets the medical green light is not yet clear, but that is where he works.
For a moment it remains uncertain about whether Ter Stegen will return to action this season. Previous reports have stated that Hansi Flick is planning to continue with Wojciech Szczesny as the number one for the rest of the season. He would like to give rise to one or two games towards the end of the year, but with the Blaugrana that is involved in a title race that could go to the thread, there is a good chance that no clear chance of doing this will present itself.
In Europe, too, Ter Stegen would not register after his injury from Szczesny, something that Flick is not going to do. The Polish goalkeeper also seems to be competing to compete next season with Ter Stegen for the number one place, with a new contract on the horizon for the 34-year-old. On the other hand, Inaki Pena is ready to leave the club in the summer.
