Barcelona granted approval by UEFA over crucial Champions League request

Barcelona remains hopeful to return to the Spotify Camp Nou next month, despite various setbacks during the construction process. They have secured access to the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Company until February if it is necessary, although club bosses want to ensure that a return to their temporary home base of the last two seasons is not necessary.

In terms of a return to the Sportify Camp Nou, Barcelona has more flexibility for domestic competitions. They will be able to switch from the Estadi Olimpic once they have received approval for competitions to be organized in their home stadium, but this would not be the case in the Champions League.

According to UEFA rules, a team cannot change their stadium in the middle of the stage, which means that Barcelona should be able to return to the Spotify Camp Nou on time for their first competition phase to play all four home games there.

UEFA was in the Spotify Camp Nou on Thursday to inspect the done work, and at the back it was reported by Catalunya Radio (via Marca) that the European football management body has accepted a request from Barcelona to play their first competition phase match away from home.

That is why Barcelona will have a few weeks to do the necessary work to endure UEFA inspections, so that they can play their first Champions League in the Spotify Camp Nou in MD2, which will be planned for September 30 or October 1.

It is still to see whether Barcelona will be able to play their four competition phase matches in the Spotify Camp Nou. This will offer an important boost for the income of the matchday, which is much needed in view of the financial misery of the club.
