Barcelona intend to present an offer for Liverpool star in the summer – report

Barcelona's biggest obsession in the transfer market remains the left-wing position, and it looks like Luis Diaz remains at the top of their shortlist. After pursuing Nico Williams last summer, the Blaugrana could make an attempt to sign the 28-year-old.

According to Sport, with Xavi Hernandez out of the picture, Luis Diaz has moved up the shortlist and is now their first priority for the position. Sporting director Deco has always been more in favor of a move for Diaz and believes his character and ability to work in tight spaces gives him an edge over Williams. In his eyes, Williams needs more open ground to be effective.

Antena 2 in Colombia, also quoted by the Catalan daily, says that Barcelona have expressed to Liverpool their intention to make a bid for Diaz in the summer. Liverpool have cautiously entered contract talks with Diaz in recent months, with his current deal set to expire in 2027, but no progress has been made, with a large gap between the two sides in terms of money.

Presumably the total deal for Williams, including salary, would earn Barcelona around €100 million, while Diaz's transfer would cost around €70 million. It is not yet known what his salary demands will be.

It is understood that Diaz is six years older than Williams, meaning it is unlikely that Barcelona will be able to get much of the resale value for Diaz if they can sign either of them. It may be worth taking reports that Barcelona are planning to make a bid this summer with a grain of salt, as connections always emerge during negotiations.
