Barcelona intend to sell defender in 2025 following massive drop in prominence

Barcelona have been without the services of Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen for almost the entire 2024/25 season so far. The former tore his hamstring in July, while in Christensen's case he had to undergo surgery due to a nagging Achilles tendon injury shortly after the opening day win against Valencia.

Araujo will return in the next two to three weeks, and Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick will rely on him immediately. The same cannot be said for Christensen, however, and Relevo say the Danish defender will almost certainly be sold sometime in 2025, whether that's January or next summer.

Christensen has lost a lot of prominence during his absence through injuries, with Inigo Martinez overtaking him in Flick's thoughts. Moreover, now that a new central defender is already being sought, this means that the 28-year-old will no longer be needed from next season.

It is noted that several Premier League clubs are monitoring Christensen's situation. Barcelona are hoping to receive a significant fee for him, although that may not happen as his contract expires in 2026.
