Barcelona presented the signing of Joan Garcia on Friday, who arrives at the back of a magical season in Rivals Espanyol. The 24-year-old was bought for € 25 million, his release clause, and many expect him to be the new number one next season.
That is probably the promise that Barcelona made Garcia to convince him to sign for the club. One that will not go well with the current captain and so far, number one of the last decade, Marc-Andre ter Stegen. The German keeper is now for sale when it comes to Barcelona, even though he has made it clear that he is not going to continue and compete for his place.
Ter Stegen is not happy with how Barcelona has dealt with the case, with no one who speaks with the 33-year-old before Garcia signs. The word of the club was that they were not needed to give him an explanation and would not have consulted their attackers before they sign a new one.
The reality is that even if Barcelona says that they will not force Ter Stegen, they could do with moving his salary of their wage account. Sport says that Barcelona is counting on manager Hansi Flick to have a candid conversation with Ter Stegen about his role in the future if he decides to stay.
In the meantime, Wojciech Szczesny had probably decided to accept the two -year renewal offer from Barcelona, but so far this has not done this. He is expected to be Garcia the next season if Ter Stegen will continue, while Inaki Pena will leave the club.
Later in the pecking order, other Astralaga only has a year about his deal, but is expected to extend his contract and find a loan agreement for more minutes. Aron Yaakobishvili will go in his shoes and become the starter for Barca Atletic.
