Barcelona have identified their attacking line as the area that needs strengthening in the January transfer market, and if they make a move, it will be there. Manager Hansi Flick believes Marcus Rashford is the man for the job.
Rashford has submitted a request to leave Manchester United and will meet with the club next Wednesday to expedite a departure, one that at least initially appears to be on loan for the remainder of the season. Barcelona would need Rashford to take a big pay cut, and one or two exits first, but are willing to try for Rashford.
According to Sport, the loudest voice in his favor comes from Flick. The German has tried to sign Rashford in the past when he was at Bayern Munich and appreciates the fact that he could play on the left as well as through the middle, making him an effective back-up to Lewandowski. The club is less certain, feeling that his personal life and inconsistency are reasons to remain clear. For his part, Rashford will prioritize Barcelona but has given them a deadline on Wednesday to tell him whether they will go for him.
Rashford has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks, with Napoli, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund named as his main suitors. One of the things that could work against Barcelona is that it is not obvious that Rashford would be a starter, as he would have to replace someone like Raphinha or Robert Lewandowski.
